Term Two Week Six – Commencing Tuesday 3rd June 2025

2025 LifeLink Appeal
On Tuesday, Mr Munro and four of our children from the Year Six Class will travel with children from Sacred Heart Thornlie and St Jude’s in Langford to the LifeLink Appeal Launch for 2025. This launch will take place at Newman College in Churchlands, where they will have the opportunity to listen to an address from Archbishop Costelloe, network with children from other Catholic schools and learn more about the appeal. 

Each year, St Emilie’s supports the Life Link Appeal, which aims to support those in our community who are doing it tough through prayer, fundraising and the provision of services. Later in the term, the school will host a fundraising day with all funds going to those in need.

National Reconciliation Week
We are currently in National Reconciliation Week, which commenced on Tuesday, 2nd of May and will run until Tuesday, 3rd of June. National Reconciliation Week takes place during the same dates each year. The theme for 2025 is ‘Bridging Now to Next’. 

This year’s theme is a call for all Australians to journey together, and to look ahead while taking on the learnings from the lessons in the past, especially in relation to the treatment of First Nations Australians.

As a Catholic community, reconciliation must be a part of who we are, not only when we reconcile with God, but also how we reconcile with one another when hurt is caused. The lesson of reconciliation is something that, as staff at St Emilie’s, we constantly instil in our children, and as a community, we bring awareness to National Reconciliation Week across Australia.

Yay Week
Can you believe that next week we officially enter the second half of Term Two. Time continues to go so quickly. As we enter the second half of the term, we also enter Yay Week. Yay Week is a designated week where, from a school end, we aim to slow the pace of life, give thanks for what we have and ground ourselves ready for the final four weeks of term. 

This week, no official Purposeful Practice will be sent home with the children. I strongly encourage you to substitute this Purposeful Practice time for time spent outside, being active or time spent with family. 

As I am sure you will agree, time is a gift! 

Road Safety Around St Emilie’s
Over the last few weeks, stories have been shared with school staff by parents and carers about some concerning near misses occurring on the streets around St Emilie’s as children are walking or riding home. Some of these near misses have even occurred while parents have been in close proximity to their children. 

At St Emilie’s, children who walk or ride to school must sign permission to do so to ensure that school staff are aware. On the permission note, our recommendation is that children under the age of 10 do not ride or walk unaccompanied to school. This recommendation is set by the WA Government Road Safety Commission and endorsed by Kids Safe. 

Parents and carers, I urge you to please stay vigilant with your children in the car park and around the streets if your children walk or ride. Unfortunately, there are no second chances when it comes to accidents on the road. Please speak with your children and exercise every caution to ensure that safety on the roads is prioritised. 

WA Day Public Holiday
A reminder that there will be no school on Monday, 2nd of June as we celebrate the Western Australia Day Public Holiday. 

Train Safety Presentations
As the new train stations around Canning Vale are drawing ever closer to opening, we are excited to share that next Friday, a representative from Transperth will be visiting St Emilie’s to share a presentation with the children about safety around trains. Thank you to Mr Davis for coordinating this visit. 

Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum
At St. Emilie’s Catholic Primary School, staff are committed to ensuring the safety of the children in our care at all times. As part of this commitment, the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum is delivered to the children at the school across all year levels from Pre-Primary to Year Six. 

The Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum teaches children from a young age and in an age-appropriate way about ways to keep themselves and others safe and about appropriate and inappropriate interactions. The course is taught by Class Teachers who undergo training to teach the program appropriately.

Kindy Enrolment 2026 – A Call for Siblings 
There has been a phenomenal response to calls for applications for Kindy enrolments for 2026. Commencing this term, the school will begin interviewing children for Kindy in 2026. If you know of anyone who is interested in attending Kindy at St Emilie’s in 2026, please encourage them to submit an application to the School Admin office as soon as possible. 

We are especially calling families of children already enrolled at the school who have siblings who are Kindy age. Due to the high demand for places in Kindy in 2026, it is vital for you to submit an enrolment form to the school. Please note that just because you have a child enrolled at the school, does not mean that you automatically receive a guaranteed place for their sibling if you do not submit the application on time. 

St Emilie’s Waste Sorted Fun Fact 
Earlier this term, some of the children in our older grades participated in a Waste Sorted Incursion. During this incursion, our visitors from Waste Sorted led our children through a waste audit in the school, where the children sorted through our items thrown in the bin for landfill. The results of this audit are back, and each week, we will share what was discovered at our school in the hope that we bring awareness to our collective impact on our environment. 

Did you know….. 

During our waste audit, it was counted that 2.18kg of fruit and vegetable scraps were found in the bins on one day. The school does have compost bins and will ensure that children are reminded that these scraps can contribute to making fantastic compost. 

P & F Student Disco
After meeting with the P & F Committee recently, we are excited to share that the School Disco has been confirmed that it will be going ahead on Friday, 20th of June. Further information will be shared about the School Disco, with the Kindy to Year Two session planned for a 2:45 pm start and the Year Three to Year Six session planned to commence at 4:15 pm.

Parent Circle – Filipino Cooking Demonstration
Parent Circle will be held this week with an exciting Filipino cooking demonstration being offered to those parents and carers who would like to stay for the morning. Parent Circle will commence straight after school drop off on Thursday, 5th of June, and all parents and carers are welcome to attend.
