Term Two Week Nine – Commencing Monday 23rd June 2025

P & F Student Disco
What an amazing afternoon the children will have today at the School Disco. The School Disco with the theme of Club Colours, is offered as an opportunity for the children to join with one another for an afternoon of music and fun with friends. A huge thank you must go to the School P & F Committee and the volunteers who spent hours pulling the disco together. I would also like to thank the school staff for all of their efforts on the evening in joining with the children for the fun, and a special mention to Mrs Tonkin for all of the organisation and effort in the background. 

Certainly a great afternoon for all. 

Western Australian Student Assistance Payment 
A reminder to all families that you are eligible to receive a one off payment as part of the West Australian Student Assistance Payment, an initiative from the West Australian Government to ease the cost of living for families. Applications to receive the payment must be made by Friday, 4th of July. Further information can be found if you scroll down in the Weekly Reminders. 

New Crosswalk & Amherst Road Pedestrian Gate Safety Concern – No Parking on Amherst Road Verge
By now, I am sure that you have seen that there is a new crosswalk and pedestrian gate that has been installed to ensure that at all times, there is a safe entrance to the school on foot for pedestrians and that community members are not walking out through the drive through entrance to Amherst Road. Over recent weeks, I have observed community members parking on the Amherst Road verge and have received reports of community members using this new pedestrian gate to collect children from the side of busy Amherst Road like a drive through system. This is not the intention of this gate, and I ask that this practice stop. 

Vehicles that are parked on the verge at Amherst Road are blocking some of the pedestrian walkways, meaning that those people including our children who need to use the footpath are having to go onto Amherst Road to get around. This is extremely dangerous. Furthermore, cars are blocking the view to the entrance and exit driveways of the school, meaning that cars coming down Amherst Road cannot see. This is also very dangerous. 

While it is not the responsibility of the school to police the traffic outside of the school gates, I must in this instance advocate for the safety of the children and community members through the misuse of this new gate. Our school is well equipped to provide parking and drive through options for parents and carers in the morning and the afternoon, more so than many other schools in the metropolitan area. Please use the intended parking spots or drive through and refrain from parking on the verge at Amherst Road near the new pedestrian gate. 

Children Who Are Unwell
Given that we are now in the colder months of the year, we are well and truly in the season for bugs and germs to be spread at school. If your child is unwell, the best place for your child is at home. We ask that even if your child wants to come to school, that children stay at home to recover and avoid the spreading of bugs and germs to others in the class. In our experience here at school, even if children are given medication in the morning to combat the symptoms, this generally wears off by morning tea which leaves children with the symptoms when at school. Thank you for your support in helping keep our community fit and healthy during the Winter months.

Kindy Enrolment 2026 – A Call for Siblings 
There has been a phenomenal response to calls for applications for Kindy enrolments for 2026. Commencing this term, the school will begin interviewing children for Kindy in 2026. If you know of anyone who is interested in attending Kindy at St Emilie’s in 2026, please encourage them to submit an application to the School Admin office as soon as possible. 

We are especially calling families of children already enrolled at the school who have siblings who are Kindy age. Due to the high demand for places in Kindy in 2026, it is vital for you to submit an enrolment form to the school. Please note that just because you have a child enrolled at the school, does not mean that you automatically receive a guaranteed place for their sibling if you do not submit the application on time. 

Uniform Reminder
As the colder weather sets in, a reminder that children are permitted to wear track suit bottoms to school at present. I have been informed that Perm A Pleat are currently waiting for some stock of sizes 8 and 10, and these are due into Perth next week.  

Perm A Pleat continue to work especially hard for our school in an attempt to back fill holes in our stock lines that have been left by our previous supplier. We appreciate your patience with all things uniform and know that once our stock lines have been filled, we will be in a better position going forward. 

Girls are also most welcome to wear navy blue 70 denier tights underneath their skorts if they wish, however, as the School Uniform Procedure explains, these should not be worn with socks. The School Uniform Procedure can be found here.

In regard to jewellery, chains with a small religious or cultural icon are permitted, however, must be worn underneath the uniform at all times for health and safety reasons. 

Parent Circle
The final Parent Circle will be held on Thursday the 3rd of July in the School Hall. Please come on down for a chat and a cuppa! 

Alpha Group – St Emilie de Vialar Parish 
I would like to share an opportunity for all in our community to attend the Alpha presentation hosted by the parish on Friday 27th of June in the School Hall. Alpha is an engaging and innovative way to share the Good News, centred around food and fellowship. For further information, please scroll down in the Weekly Reminders. 

St Emilie’s Waste Sorted Fun Fact 
Earlier this term, some of the children in our older grades participated in a Waste Sorted Incursion. During this incursion, our visitors from Waste Sorted led our children through a waste audit in the school, where the children sorted through our items thrown in the bin for landfill. The results of this audit are back, and each week, we will share what was discovered at our school in the hope that we bring awareness to our collective impact on our environment. 

Did you know….. 

From the audit we collected 0.520kg of paper and 0.080kg of hard plastic. This all equates to 110.85kg of recyclable materials a year that are being sent to landfill.
