Term Three Week Three – Commencing Monday 29th July 2024

Dear Families, 

I hope that this week’s edition of the Weekly Reminders finds you well in what has been a very wet and cold week in Canning Vale. 

Last week and this coming week, the God given gifts of the children at St Emilie’s will be on show for the wider community. Yesterday, a number of children from Year Four to Year Six ventured to Tomato Lake in Kewdale to take part in the Interschool Cross Country Carnival. As they always do, our children represented our school beautifully with a strong team effort and some really pleasing individual results. I am pleased to share that our school finished in first place on the day. The boys and girls worked so well as a team and every child who was involved on the day should be very proud of earning points for St Emilie’s. This is an outstanding result given that the school has won cross country seven years in a row.

On Monday, our school’s first item for the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival will take place with our Christina Dance Group heading to Mercy College in Koondoola to showcase their efforts. We wish the girls as well as Miss Fallo and Mrs Green all the best for the day. 

Marvellous Mr Dabbs will lead his group of rocking St Emilie’s children as our School Band performs at Orana Catholic Primary School in Willeton on Thursday. These children have been preparing for a very long time and are excited to perform on the day. From walking past band rehearsals, the audience are in for a treat. 

To all of our amazing grandparents in our community, we wish you a lovely World Day for Grandparents on Sunday 28 July. Grandparents hold a special place in the hearts of their grandchildren and the impact of grandparents on the formation of their grandchildren can not be underestimated. Thank you for all you do and for all of your support of our school here at St Emilie’s. 

A huge thank you must go to the children and staff in Year Three for honouring the impact of their grandparents through their beautiful assembly this morning. Well done boys and girls as well as to Mrs Morrison and Mrs Ryan. 

As a West Coast Eagles supporter, I have my fingers crossed that the Western Derby this week is a close one. To all my fellow West Coast Eagles supporters in the community, we live in hope this weekend, and to all of our friends who support Fremantle, we wish you all the best for the footy on Saturday too. 

Year Three and Year Five REA 
This week, we ask that you please keep those children in Year Three and Year Five in your thoughts and prayers as they participate in the Catholic Education Western Australia Religious Education Assessment. This assessment will provide the school with a snapshot in regard to the children’s learning in Religious Education across the cohorts. This information will then be used for our future planning. 

Two Way Interviews – General Information 
A reminder that Monday 5th August will be a Pupil Free day for all children. Parents and carers have all been sent a link to book an interview with your child’s Class Teacher and we ask that all families book a meeting with your child’s Class Teacher at your earliest convenience. The purpose of this meeting is to celebrate the growth of your child across Semester One as well as set goals for your child to strive toward for the end of Semester Two. 

Parents and carers, if you have not done so already, it is important that you read your child’s Mid Year Report which was sent home to you on the Seqta Engage app at the end of last term. The report will be referred to during the meeting and it is important that you have an understanding of your child’s progress. 

School Census Day – Friday 2nd August 
This Friday 2nd August is School Census Day. School Census Day is an important day for our school as it is a main source of information that is used by the federal and state governments in resourcing our school. 

As usual, all children, unless unwell must be at school on Friday 2nd August. If you know in advance that your child will be away from school on this day, please ensure that a written reason for absence is provided to the school before Friday. If your child is unwell on the morning of Friday 2nd August, please ensure that you provide a written absentee note prior to 9:00am. 

We appreciate your assistance in ensuring that this day runs smoothly. 

Written Confirmation for Absentees
A reminder to parents and carers that if your child is absent from school, a written follow-up including the date your child was absent, your child’s name and your name as a parent or carer is required to be given to the school for legal purposes. Our School Census Day is scheduled for Friday 2nd August and we require all written notification for absentees to be followed up with your child’s Class Teacher as soon as possible. 

Arriving at School before 8:30am – All Children between Year One to Year Six to the Undercover Area with their School Bags
To ensure that children are supervised at all times when on site here at St Emilie’s, we ask that children arriving at school before the 8:30am wait in the undercover area with their school bags each morning. Parents and carers, if you are walking your child down to the class, we kindly ask that you stay with your child in the undercover area until the 8:30am bell and then move to class when you hear the bell. 

As has been shared before with parents and carers, before 8:20am, there is no formal supervision for children at school as the school’s official duty of care hours have not commenced. The morning is a busy time at school where staff are preparing for the day including Mr Cogger and at times other contractors too who are moving equipment around the school. We appreciate your support in ensuring our children remain in the one place. 

Friday School Lunches
We are very pleased to share that Jamaica Blue in Livingston will now be providing lunches for children to order on Fridays if they wish. It has been a pleasure planning this opportunity with Jamaica Blue who are very excited to be partnering with the school. Spirit of The Arts
The Spirit of the Arts festival is once again back in 2024. The Spirit of the Arts Festival brings together children from Catholic schools across the state to participate in an uplifting and inclusive celebration of the arts. 

St Emilie’s will once again be represented by our Choir, Christian Dance Troupe, Dance Troupe and Rock Band.

Over the course of the year, we have been sharing Staff Profiles of staff from our school. This week, we share with you the Staff Profile of Mrs Tahni Green. Mrs Green currently teaches in Year Five Blue. Please enjoy learning more about Mrs Green this week.

P & F Meeting – Wednesday 31 July 
Our first P & F Meeting for Term Three will take place at 8:45am on Wednesday 31st July in the Staffroom. All community members are welcome to attend this meeting to discuss upcoming events at the school. 

Parent Presentation – 6pm Wednesday 31 July  
On Wednesday 31st July, one of Australia’s leading experts and highly sought-after speaker, Paul Litherland will be presenting here at St Emilie’s on cyber safety. We can not speak highly enough of Paul and anticipate a highly informative and extremely relevant presentation for ALL parents from Kindergarten to Year Six.

We strongly encourage all parents to come along on Wednesday 31st July at 6pm in the Learning Hub to a really important and worthwhile session for all of us who live in the digital world. Please see below for information to register for this free event.

Parent Circle 
 Our first Parent Circle session for this term, will take place on Thursday 8 August with a morning tea. All members of our community are most welcome.
