Term Three Week Eight – Commencing Monday 2nd September 2024

Dear Families,   

As is always the case at St Emilie’s, there is much to celebrate in this week’s edition of the Weekly Reminders. 

I would like to start by acknowledging and celebrating a very special group of staff here at our school. Next week is Education Assistant Appreciation Week across Australia. At St Emilie’s we are blessed to have dedicated, talented and caring professionals in all areas of our school and our education assistants and support staff are certainly no exception. 

The school here at St Emilie’s runs very smoothly. Behind the scenes, in the classrooms, across the playgrounds and in the Administration Office, what many of you do not see is the effort our education assistants and support staff place into contributing to this great community. To the St Emilie’s education assistants and to our support staff, we say thank you. Thank you for being you, for bringing your God given talents to this place and for always doing your best for the children in our care. Our community would not be what it is without you. 

This weekend, we also celebrate the fathers and father figures in our community. One of the most important parts of any community is that children can find a role model that they look up to. To the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, cousins, family friends and father figures at St Emilie’s, please do not underestimate your impact of role modelling. Our children absorb all we do and through your modelling of respectful relationships and involvement and interest in the children you care for. Your impact is mighty. 

From our own staff, I would like to say a very happy Father’s Day to the father figures in our staff and community. To Father Jean-Noel Marie, Mr Cogger, Mr Dabbs, Mr Davis, Mr Hewitt and Mr Munro, we hope you get time to reflect on your profound impact this Sunday and enjoy time with your own families. 

This week has been a brilliant week for our community with two very authentic opportunities for parents and carers to join us on site to be involved in school life. 

On Tuesday, we had an amazing response from the children and the parents and carers from St Emilie’s to celebrate Children’s Book Week with a Book Week Parade. The energy and buzz around the school was tangible and the children made some very special memories with school staff and family. 

Today, we also took time to join as a community for Family Breakfast. Once again, people showed their support for our school through their attendance at the Family Breakfast. Our school staff were very well supported by our School P & F in serving up breakfast for the masses and providing the chance for a catch-up, a laugh and to play few games along the way. Thank you to those who came to our breakfast. 

Thank you also to our amazing Year Ones who stole the show with a brilliant Father’s Day themed assembly this morning. With the ‘cuteness factor’ high, our Year One children held the attention of all in attendance and did themselves, their families and their school proud. Once again, a huge thank you and congratulations to the staff in Year One for preparing the children. 

What a big week here at St Emilie’s growing in grace together. 

Confirmation Workshops
This week, we keep the children in the parish in our thoughts and prayers as they join with their parents and carers for Confirmation Workshops. Our Year Six children here at St Emilie’s are currently preparing for the Sacrament guided by school staff. Confirmation Mass will take place on Sunday 27th October. Please mark this date in your diaries and come and join in this wonderful celebration. 

Dance Troupe Performance 
On Thursday night, our Dance Troupe rocked the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre! The children in the Dance Troupe have been preparing for months and on Thursday night it all came together with an amazing performance. It was such a thrill to see the children from St Emilie’s share their God given gifts and talents on stage and up in lights. 

A huge thank you to Miss Fallo and Mrs Green for their unwavering dedication to the children in Dance Troupe. Miss Fallo and Mrs Green have gone above and beyond with the children and on behalf of our community, I would like to say thank you! Thank you also to our amazing parents and carers who continue to show up in droves to support our children at outside of school events! You are brilliant! 

House Field Events Carnival 
A reminder that the House Field Events Carnival will take place this Friday for children in Year Four to Year Six. We wish all of the children all the very best as our carnival season starts to ramp up! 
9am to 10.40am — Year Six
11am to 12.40pm –Year Four
1.20pm to 3pm — Year Five

Uniform Supply Survey 
During the week, parents and carers would have received a link to an online survey to provide their thoughts and feedback on our current uniform supply here at St Emilie’s. The results from this survey sent on Thursday will be used to help guide the school’s decision making going forward in regard to uniform supply. 

Friday School Lunches
We are very pleased to share that Jamaica Blue in Livingston will now be providing lunches for children to order on Fridays if they wish. It has been a pleasure planning this opportunity with Jamaica Blue who are very excited to be partnering with the school. Children Who Are Unwell 
This the season for germs to spread! This week across the school we noticed a higher number of absences of children who needed to be away from school as they were unwell. This is a good chance for us to remind parents and carers that if your child is unwell, the best place for them to be is at home to recover. Children who come to school unwell find it difficult to engage fully with the demands of the school day. 

If your child is unwell, has an overly runny nose, a fever or a bad cough, we ask that your child stay at home to rest and to contain the spread of germs to others in the community. It is timely for us all to remind our children about the importance of proper hygiene practices such as handwashing to contain the spread of germs at this time also. 

Staff Profiles
Over the course of the year, we have been sharing staff profiles from our school. This week, we share with you the staff profile of Mrs Juanita Curtis. Mrs Curtis currently works in Kindy and Year Six at St Emilie’s.

Parent Circle 
Please come down to Parent Circle on Thursday 5th September. I am very excited to be joining to share some stories with the children in the morning while parents and carers catch up for a cuppa. I look forward to seeing you there.
