From The Principal
In loving memory of Layna
Dear Families,
The last week has been an incredibly sad and difficult time for all of us in our St Emilie’s community after the tragic passing of Layna. Our hearts ache for Saoirse, Graeme, Glen and their family and friends. Layna will be missed by all at our school.
In the coming weeks and months, this community will continue to wrap our arms around the family. When the time is right, we will liaise with Saoirse and Graeme about what they need and will ensure to keep our community informed about how they can assist.
I would like to pass on my most sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all of those in our community who have shared their support, prayers and well wishes to Layna’s family, and to our school staff as we face this tremendous grief together.
I would also like to publicly thank and acknowledge so many of our local Catholic schools, who have reached out and offered support in so many ways.
The support that our staff have received this week has helped us to keep going and ensure that we continue to show up for our children.
Between now and the end of term, our focus as a Leadership Team is to prioritise space for community wellbeing. In the Weekly Reminders below, I have outlined some updated information about some community events coming up and ask that you read these notes carefully to ensure that you are up to date.
Mid-Year Reports Parent Information Session: Date Change – Thursday, the 25th of June
As was shared in earlier editions of the Weekly Reminders, we will be hosting a Parent Information Session for parents to provide further information for Mid-Year Reports, as well as outline some of the changes to these reports in 2026.
The new time and date for this session is Thursday, the 25th of June at 5:00pm.
Feast Day of Saint Emilie de Vialar
The Feast Day of Saint Emilie de Vialar will take place this Wednesday, the 17th of June. This day is a day of celebration for our school as we reflect on and celebrate our school’s namesake, Saint Emilie de Vialar and her inspiration to our school community.
In 2026, the children will spend the day in the school participating in some fun activities and a prayer service to honour Saint Emilie.
Usually, the school leads the community in Mass at the Parish Church during the morning of the Feast Day. The decision has been made this year that, in the best interest of our children, our prayers to Saint Emilie will take place at school and therefore, there will be no community Mass.
We thank Father Jean Noel Marie for his support with this decision.
Disco Refunds
Please be advised that refunds have been processed from the disco last week. Refunds should have arrived back in people’s nominated bank accounts this week.
Cross Country Training: Thursday Mornings (Year Four to Year Six)
This Thursday, and for the following Thursdays until the end of term, children from Year Four to Year Six are welcome to join for Cross Country Training. Training sessions will be facilitated by Mr Lowry. Training will commence at 8:00am on the School Oval.
Children who are participating in Cross Country Training are asked to bring a spare pair of runners and socks, given that the ground will be dewy in the morning. If the weather is shaping up to be adverse, training may be cancelled. Parents and carers will be advised of any cancellations via text as early as can be.
Training is only available for children between Year Four and Year Six. Younger siblings will need to remain with parents until the usual duty of care start time at 8:20am.
Year Six Lightning Carnival
We wish our Year Six children all the very best as they head off to the Lightning Carnival this Thursday. Thank you to all of our staff who are coaching the children before school or during recess and lunch times.
No Parent Circle This Week
Please be advised that there will be no Parent Circle this week. Further information about Parent Circle in Term Three will be shared next week.
Year Five and Year Four Assembly: Change of Date
As was communicated to the community last week, the Year Five Assembly was postponed. The new date for the Year Five Assembly will be Friday the 26th of June.
The Year Four Assembly will now take place on Friday the 23rd of October.
Kindy Enrolment 2027
It is that time of year when we are starting to call for Kindy enrolments for 2027. If you have a child who is due to attend Kindy next year, or you know someone who has a child that age, please encourage them to submit an application as soon as possible. Our Kindy program has proved to be extremely popular over the last few years, and it is advised that parents and carers submit an application sooner rather than later.
Three Year Old Kindy 2027
I am pleased to share that once again in 2027, our school will be offering a Three Year Old Kindy Program for children who turn three in 2027. Further information will be shared with school families about how you can enrol your child in this program.

URSTRONG
🌧️ Rainy Day Friends ☀️
Winter has just begun and the rain will keep on coming. What better time to talk about the idea of a Rainy Day Friend. At St Emilie’s, we are continuing to support children in building strong and caring friendships.
A Rainy Day Friend isn’t someone who simply holds your umbrella when it rains (though that’s nice too!). A Rainy Day Friend is the person who shows up when life feels a little stormy, when things don’t go to plan, when your child feels left out, or when they just need someone to listen.
It’s not about fixing all the problems; it’s about being there, showing kindness, and letting someone know they are not alone.
We have been encouraging students to:
- Ask, “Are you okay?”
- Offer a smile or a kind word
- Sit with someone who looks lonely
- Invite others to join in their game
💡 Conversation starter at home:
You might like to ask your child:
- “Who has been a Rainy Day Friend to you?”
- “How could you be a Rainy Day Friend to someone else this week?”
Together, we can help our children understand that kindness doesn’t have to wait for a storm, even the smallest gestures can be a ray of sunshine for someone’s day. 🌟

Fruit of the Holy Spirit
Self Control
One of the most challenging — and powerful — Fruits of the Holy Spirit is self‑control. In a world that often encourages immediate reactions and instant gratification, self‑control invites us to pause, reflect, and choose the good, even when it is difficult.
Self‑control is not about rigid rules or suppression; it is about freedom — the freedom to act with wisdom rather than impulse, and to respond with grace rather than emotion.
Self‑Control Builds Trust
Trust is something that is earned over time, not demanded or assumed. When people see that our words match our actions, and that we can manage our reactions even in challenging moments, trust naturally grows.
The Book of Proverbs tells us: “One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and one whose temper is controlled than one who captures a city.” (Proverbs 16:32)
In our school community, self‑control looks like:
- A child choosing kind words instead of reacting in anger
- A staff member remaining calm and respectful during a difficult conversation
- An adult modelling patience, even when under pressure
Each of these moments may seem small, but together they form the foundation of trust and safety within our community.
A Model for Our Students
Children learn far more from what we model than what we say. When they see adults owning mistakes, speaking calmly, and treating others with dignity, they learn that self‑control is not weakness — it is strength. As Scripture reminds us: “Whoever can govern their own tongue is perfect, and able to keep the whole body in check.” (James 3:2)
When trust is present, relationships flourish. When self‑control is practised, trust is strengthened. These values allow our community to reflect Christ’s love more clearly. As we continue through this term, let us pray that the Holy Spirit helps us grow in self‑control — not only for ourselves, but for the example we set for those entrusted to our care.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)
May our words, actions, and attitudes always point to the gentle strength found in Christ.
Term Two
Self Control
Reflecting on my words and actions and how they affect myself and others.

Week Ten: I Can Wait

A Note from the School Health Nurse
Caitlin Amos
Welcome to the new school year. I am the nurse that will be visiting your school throughout the year.
School Health nurses support children’s healthy development and wellbeing in primary schools. We offer a free health check (School Entry Health Assessment) for all children in the year that they start school. You may receive a School Entry Health Assessment form via your child’s teacher. If you sign and return it, we can check your child’s vision, hearing, teeth, growth, and development.
School Health Nurses provide feedback and support to families and schools after assessment and connect you with services in the community. We promote parenting programs and help with health care plans for students with identified and chronic health needs. Additionally, we may provide advice and support for some areas of the curriculum delivery on request by the school.
Further information about the role of the nurse in primary schools can be found here:
