From the Principal

Dear Families,

Welcome to the final edition of the Weekly Reminders for Term Three.

This week was a HUGE week across the school, starting on Saturday with children competing in the RoboCup, then on Tuesday, our Dance Troupe performed at the Catholic Performing Arts Finale. We had Mission Mass and Open Classrooms on Wednesday, the Year Five St Norbert’s Cup on Thursday, and to top it all off, the School House Carnival, taking place in the beautiful surrounds of St Emilie’s today.

If your children are exhausted this afternoon, I understand why!

Congratulations to Gannon on winning the House Shield today. You should be very proud of your efforts.

A huge thank you to all of the staff who prepared the children for today and who facilitated a fun filled day based around fun, fitness and friends and our four school values. A special mention must go to Mr Davis and Mr Lowry. Today was a culmination of over a term’s work in the Health and Physical Education Teaching and Learning Program.

I would also like to thank your School P & F Committee, who have been extremely busy over the past few weeks, preparing food and raffles, and generally uniting our community during the various events. To Catrina, Enzina, Gurpreet, Michelle and Sheree, we thank you for your leadership.

This week the sun will be splitting the trees in the final week of Term Three, with temperatures on some of the days pushing 30 degrees! Please ensure that your child comes to school with sun cream and a school hat.

This week is a short week at the school, with Friday 26th of September, being a Pupil Free Day.

I would like to use this opportunity on behalf of the staff here at the school to thank you all for your support over the term. We wish your children a very restful and relaxing break so we can return to Term Four with renewed vigour.

The first edition of the Weekly Reminders for Term Four will be shared in the second week of school holidays.

Footy Colours Day
To support the beautiful prayers and thoughts shared during Mission Mass, this Thursday 25th of September, children will be invited to wear their footy colours to school for Footy Colours Day. On Thursday, children are asked to bring a gold coin to school which will go to the Catholic Missions who are making a difference in parts of the world that are not as fortunate as us.

On Wednesday morning, a video reflection was shared with the children about how the Catholic Missions are aiming to support those who are doing it tough in Zambia at present. We send our thoughts and prayers to all those around the world who struggling at present, and we give thanks for the life we have been gifted here in Australia.

Performing Arts Assembly
This Tuesday, the 23rd of September, all in our community are invited to the Performing Arts Assembly. The Performing Arts Assembly is a time for our children who participated in the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival in 2025 to showcase their talents. This is in the hope that the culture of Performing Arts continues here at the school, and that this showcase inspires our next generation of performers.

This Tuesday, please come on down to see the Christian Dance Group, Dance Troupe, Hip Hop Crew, School Band and School Choir.

The assembly will take place in the School Hall straight after school drop off.

Wellness Dog Trial – Call for Parent Voice
Next term, school staff are exploring the potential to introduce a Wellness Dog at school. This initiative has support from our school staff and School Advisory Council, however, before we embark on the trial, we are offering the chance for parents and carers to offer their perspectives. Depending on the feedback will determine how the trial goes ahead.

A Wellness Dog is different from a Therapy Dog in the fact that it does not provide various therapies, but is on school site to provide support and comfort for children who may require this. Many schools across the country have introduced dogs on school sites to be with children, with much success reported anecdotally. Schools have introduced dogs on site who use their intuitive social instincts and have reported benefits in the various aspects of social emotional wellbeing at school.

The Wellness Dog will spend the majority of time in the Administration Office, but will accompany school staff as they venture out into the school grounds. Having a dog on site will require the setting of boundaries for the children, and this will all be a part of the trial.

No child will be forced to interact with the dog if they would prefer not to, and parents and carers will be offered the opportunity to ask that their child does not interact with the dog if they wish.

Before we move any further with this trial, community consultation is essential. If you would like to offer your thoughts, please find the link to the form here.

We encourage parents and carers to take time to provide feedback to us, especially in relation to the proposed benefits, but also in regard to concerns such as fear of dogs, allergies or cultural nuances that the school should be aware of.

URSTRONG

September Theme: Forgiveness ☀️

Hi Ninjas

Can you believe it’s already September? A brand new month means a brand new theme in URSTRONG, and this month’s theme is one that’s close to the heart: FORGIVENESS.

We all know that mistakes happen in friendships – sometimes we say something without thinking, sometimes we let our friends down. That’s why URSTRONG teaches us how to use the Friend-O-Cycle and the Talk-It-Out strategy to sort through those tricky moments. But here’s the real magic: forgiveness. When we forgive, we give our friendships the chance to heal, grow, and become even stronger than before.

Think of forgiveness like dropping a heavy backpack you’ve been carrying around. When you let it go, you feel lighter, freer, and ready to run forward again. It doesn’t mean what happened was okay, but it means we’re ready to move on without letting anger or sadness weigh us down.

But here’s something we sometimes forget: forgiveness isn’t just for others – it’s for ourselves, too. Everyone makes mistakes. We all have moments we wish we could rewind. Part of being a true Ninja is learning to say, “That’s okay, I’ll try again tomorrow,” and being as kind to ourselves as we would be to a friend.

And that’s the big message for this month: you can’t be the best friend to others unless you’re also a good friend to yourself. So Ninjas, remember to treat yourself with the same kindness, patience, and forgiveness you’d give to your BFF.

Forgiveness is a superpower — and every single one of you has it.

Fruit of the Holy Spirit

Goodness

This week, we reflect on the beautiful fruit of the Holy Spirit: Goodness. At its heart, goodness is about living a life of integrity—choosing what is right, being honest in our words and actions, and standing up for truth, even when it’s hard.

In a world where it can be tempting to take shortcuts or hide the truth, we are called to be people of light and truth. Goodness is not just about being “nice”—it’s about being authentic, trustworthy, and courageous in doing what is right in God’s eyes.

💬 “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.”
— Proverbs 10:9

💬 “For the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth.”
— Ephesians 5:9

As we guide our students and families, let us model this fruit by being honest in our communication, fair in our decisions, and faithful in our relationships. May St Emilie’s continue to be a place where truth is spoken with love, and goodness is lived out in every classroom, playground, and home.

Parent Reading

This week under the Parent Reading heading, we have included an article titled, ‘Little Niggles Can Lead to Big Dramas: Why Parents Should Act Early’ by Dr Justin Coulson.

It’s easy to overlook the small stuff. But sometimes, those little niggles—physical, cognitive, or emotional—are our early warning signs. As parents, one of the most loving things we can do is to listen—to our children and to our intuition—before the small things become big dramas.
