Term One Week Seven – Commencing Monday 16th March 2026

Dear Families, 

This edition of the Weekly Reminders is dedicated to the men and women of the Saint Emilie de Vialar parish, of which our school is proudly a part. This weekend, the Saint Emilie de Vialar Parish celebrates 25 years in our local area. The parish has certainly come a very long way since 2001, when it was formally established, starting off as a very committed and close group of people celebrating Mass at Canning Vale Primary School, to the very diverse and dynamic parish which we are blessed to be a part of in 2026. 

As always, these important milestones are a great time to stop and reflect, in order to give thanks to all those who have come before us and contributed to the life of the parish. In particular, we remember and thank Father Robert Carrillo, the founding Parish Priest, who originally lived in a house on the school site off Amherst Road. 

We also remember and pay our gratitude to Sister Margaret Mary Gannon SJA, who, alongside Father Robert, was instrumental in establishing the parish here at St Emilie’s in her role as Pastoral Assistant. 

Father Robert and Sister Margaret Mary Gannon were catalysts for what has become a faith community in which people are immensely proud and deeply rooted. 25 years of faith filled service and mission in the Canning Vale area is something that all in the parish should be so proud of, with the future looking extremely bright for our parish community to continue making a difference in the local area for many years to come. 

To Father Jean Noel and the amazing team at the parish who are countless and too many to name, we thank you all for the efforts you have placed into the celebration this weekend, and we hope that the day is one of joyous celebration and the sharing of fond memories.

This week, we also wish the children in Year Six, as well as the staff, all the very best as they head for Year Six Camp at Woodman’s Point. Year Six Camp is a fantastic opportunity for the children in the year level to bond with one another and with staff, as well as challenge themselves by choice and push their own comfort levels. Planning an action packed and engaging Camp is a massive job, and we thank Ms Clune, Ms Dreyer and Mr Munro in particular for their organisation. We also thank the ever organised Mrs Curulli, who, as usual, has ensured that all is ready to go in the background with medications and permissions. Thank you to these wonderful people. 

Finally, a very special mention to all of those in our community born in Ireland or who have Irish roots. A very happy ‘Paddy’s Day’ to you all on Tuesday. 

Parent Teacher Meetings Start This Week
On Wednesday, the 4th of March, Mr Munro shared an email with the parents and carers in our community to book a date for Two Way Parent Meetings. Two Way Parent Meetings are an opportunity for Class Teachers to sit down with parents and carers and discuss how your child’s transition to the new school year has been. It is also an opportunity to share some collective goals for your child for this semester. 

In line with one of our core beliefs from the School Vision for Learning, which states, ‘As Catholic educators of quality, called to courageously inspire and support all children, we believe parents are the first educators of their children. We authentically partner with parents’, we ask that all parents and carers book a time slot with your child’s Class Teacher to celebrate your child and ensure that there is alignment with the way forward in helping your child to grow to their full potential. 

Entrepreneurship program with YEAWA
I am delighted to share that our school has been accepted into a partnership with the Young Entrepreneurship Academy of Western Australia. This partnership will be led by Mrs Tracy Aroozoo and Mrs Claire Soulsby, who will work alongside the academy to infuse entrepreneurial skills into the teaching and learning practice for those in our academic extension opportunities, in particular. 

Entrepreneurial education challenges children to develop real world solutions to real world problems through connection and partnership with organisations in the community. 

We will keep you updated on the amazing learning that comes from this partnership as the year draws on. 

Interschool Swimming Squad Training – Tuesday 17th March 
Congratulations to all of the boys and girls who were offered the opportunity to compete at the Interschool Swimming Carnival in Week Eight. This year’s House Swimming Trials were extremely well attended, with very encouraging signs for our school. 

A reminder to those children who have been invited to the Interschool Swimming Trials on Tuesday, and who have received the Consent 2 Go email, that there will be swimming training on Tuesday morning at Riverton Leisureplex. 

Project Compassion 2026
As is the case across all Catholic schools at this time of year, we have commenced our efforts with Project Compassion for the Lenten season. Project Compassion is an opportunity for us to stand in solidarity with those around the world who need our prayers, and assistance financially. When opportunities arise throughout Lent to support Project Compassion, I ask that you do your best to support. 

Last week, collection boxes and further information were sent home with the children for Project Compassion.

Complaints & Disputes Process at St Emilie’s
As part of the Re-Registrastration Standards for Non-Government Schools in Western Australia, schools are required to create and make accessible to their community a process that addresses complaints and disputes in the school.

Supervised Hours at St Emilie’s
A reminder to parents and carers that children should not be on site at school until 8:20am.
8:20am is when our school officially commences our duty of care for the children at St Emilie’s, with staff rostered on to supervise the school in the morning and ensure that all of the boys and girls that attend the school are arriving safely and are ready to learn.

P & F Hot Cross Bun Drive
Once again, the St Emilie’s P & F Group will be offering school families the opportunity to purchase hot cross buns as a fundraiser for our school. Orders are open NOW. Please see below for information to order. 

St Emilie’s Choir & Band – An invitation to children Year Four to Year Six
A reminder for children in Year Four to Year Six that all children are invited to join in with the School Choir in 2026. 

Children who are able to play an instrument are also most welcome to join the School band. 

Both the choir and band meet together on Wednesday mornings before school. Please contact the school for additional information. 

P & F Footy Tipping
This year, our school will once again be hosting a P & F Footy Tipping competition. The first round of the AFL season is this week.

CEWA Colouring Competition
Once again, Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) will be hosting an Easter Colouring Competition for children across catholic Schools to enter.

Beyond The Screen with Dan Principle @ Corpus Christi College
Corpus Christi College is hosting a free parent and community workshop, Beyond the Screen with Daniel Principe. 

Daniel Principe is a highly regarded presenter who works with young people, families, and schools to address topics such as online influences, relationships, consent, and digital wellbeing. His sessions are engaging, practical, and designed to support families navigating an increasingly complex digital world.
