Term Four Week Three – Commencing Monday 27th October 2025

Colour Run
The excitement throughout the week was electric in the build up to the School Colour Run, which took place today. As per the case in previous years, it was hard to see who was having the most fun out of the children and the adults in the community, as the children walked, ran and cartwheeled their hearts out around the school site, getting covered in coloured powder and involving themselves in obstacles along the way. 

A mountain of work has gone into ensuring that once again, Colour Run was a huge success, and I would like to thank the School P & F Committee, all of our parent volunteers, sponsors, school families and our wonderful staff for their total commitment to providing this opportunity for our children. These are the special memories that our children will hold with them as they journey through primary school. 

Hats off to Teachers – “World Teacher’s Day”
At St Emilie’s, as articulated in our School Vision for Learning, every single person on our staff is an educator. No matter the various roles that our staff hold at school, each one of us explicitly and incidentally teach the children in our care. Staff in Catholic schools are special people with the passion, faith and skill to weave the teachings of the Gospel into everything we do.  

At St Emilie’s this is no different. 

Today is World Teachers’ Day, and the theme for World Teachers’ Day is ‘Hats off to Teachers’. Today is an opportunity for educators to receive the recognition they deserve for all they do. While the staff here at St Emilie’s do not do their work for the recognition, I call on all members of our school community to take time out of their day in the next week or so to deliberately reach out to the staff at St Emilie’s and thank them. Practising gratitude in our community will only strengthen us. 

Working in a school is not as simple as showing up and delivering a lesson. Our educators strive to engage, courageously inspire and support children in line with our vision and mission statements that can be found on our website. 

Staff in schools in 2025 are called to not only teach but to counsel, heal bumps and bruises, dry tears when they are shed, authentically walk with families, ensure everyone is safe all of the time, bring their best selves to school each day so they can be a role model, as well as beacons of our Catholic faith. This is all in a day’s work for our staff, and I would like to personally thank these wonderfully caring, empathetic, talented and dedicated people for ensuring that our children continue to ‘grow in grace’. The staff at St Emilie’s are ‘second to none’. 

2026 Staffing Update: Welcome to Mrs Jessica Cullen and Mrs Jenny Mair – Wieman
I am pleased to be able to share the news of two additions to our staff in 2026. 

Mrs Jessica Cullen (Early Years Teacher) 

I would like to take this opportunity to share that Mrs Jessica Cullen will be joining the staff at St. Emilie’s Catholic Primary School in 2026. Jessica is a passionate Early Years Teacher who has previously held positions at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Hilton, as well as St Columba’s Catholic Primary School in South Perth. Jessica has a very warm and welcoming nature and is an exceptional educator, with extensive experience in teaching in the Early Years. Jessica has joined the staff at St Emilie’s most recently as a relief teacher. Jessica will bring wonderful character and expertise to our school.

Mrs Jenny Mair – Wieman (Psychologist) 

I would also like to welcome Mrs Jenny Mair – Wieman who will join the staff here at St Emilie’s in the role of School Psychologist. Jenny is known for her personable nature and sense of humour and is passionate about journeying with children, staff and parents to ensure that each child is set up for success at school. Jenny has a wealth of knowledge and experience that she will bring to our community. 

Jenny currently works at Hammond Park Catholic Primary School and has worked in various other CEWA schools in her role as psychologist.  Jenny’s role will complement the strong educational and pastoral support structures that currently exist at St Emilie’s and will be visiting the school through this term to meet the children, staff and parents before commencing at the school in a part time capacity in 2026. 

Further information about Jenny’s role will be shared early in 2026. 

Interschool Athletics
This week, children who were outstanding in the House Athletics Carnival between Year Three to Year Six will represent St Emilie’s at the 2025 Interschool Athletics Carnival. 

These children have been training all of last term during Physical Education lessons to enhance their skills in athletics, and those children who have been selected in the Interschool Team have been training hard in the mornings before school with staff in order to bring their best to the carnivals on Monday and Tuesday this week. 

On behalf of the community, I wish all of the children in our Interschool Athletics Team all the very best for the carnival next week. 

Year Three Assembly
On Friday 31st of October, children from Year Three will lead the community in our final Friday Morning Assembly for the year. All in our community are welcome to come and attend the assembly, with a cuppa being served afterwards for those who wish to stay behind for a chat. 

Year Five Growth Hunting Parent Session
This year, our school will once again partner with The Growth Hunting Company to lead our Year Five children in the Growth Hunting @ St Emilie’s Program. This program aims to provide an opportunity for reflection and learning about what it means to be your best self. When children are given the opportunity to be the best version of themselves, this translates into the children leading our community in the best way they can. 

This Tuesday, Year Five parents and carers will join with Jarrod from The Growth Hunting Company for an interactive workshop on the program at 5:45pm in the Learning Hub.

Optional Early Years T-Shirt in 2026
Late last term, staff and the School Advisory Council discussed the possibility of introducing an optional t-shirt for children in the Early Years (Kindy and Pre Primary) at St Emilies. The rationale behind introducing an optional t-shirt is to provide an opportunity for children to enhance their connectedness and belonging to the community by wearing an item of clothing that is age appropriate which ties the children to the school. 

The optional nature of the t-shirt will not detract from the educational philosophy in this area of the school, where we promote autonomy and choice for our children through play based experiences. 

Final details will be workshopped with our current uniform provider, Perm A Pleat School Wear, and in the coming weeks, the children between Kindy to Year Two, will have the opportunity to contribute their artwork, which will eventually be screen printed on the t-shirt. This will ensure that the t-shirt is custom made for children at St Emilie’s and represents our school through the eyes of the child. 

More details will be shared about the progression of the Early Years t-shirt in the coming weeks. 

2026 Class Requests
The period for parents and carers to lodge official class requests for 2026 has now opened. If you have any class requests for your child for 2025, these need to be sent in writing to the School Administration Account at stemiliesadmin@cewa.edu.au.  

At the end of 2024, there was a huge increase in the number of class requests sent to the school for the 2025 class placements. For 2026, I ask that parents and carers do not email through requests for friends that you would like your child to be placed with in 2026. As part of our usual process, children are asked by their class teachers to name five friends that they would like to be with for the following year. These names are then entered into our system, and each child in the school is guaranteed to have at least one of these children in their class. 

Requests for friends that are sent to the Administration Email will not be considered. 

While we will certainly take other requests into account when we are organising classes for 2026, requests are not guaranteed. The period for official class requests to be sent to school will close on Monday, 27th October. 

Notify School If Leaving
As we draw closer to the end of the year, planning has commenced at the school for the commencement of the 2026 school year. If your child is not returning to St Emilie’s for the 2026 school year, can you please email the School Administration Office at stemiliesadmin@cewa.edu.au to notify the school. 

Fee Balances
As we enter Term Four, it is timely for families who have remaining fee balances to work toward closing these balances for the year. The school fees that parents and carers pay at St Emilie’s are a vital source of funding for our school and ensure that we can resource the school in the best way for the children in our care. 

We recognise from time to time that families may have difficulty in paying school fees. If this is the case, I would ask that you contact the Administration Office to arrange a confidential conversation with myself. 

Welcome, Lucy (School Wellbeing Dog)
Last Monday, Lucy, our School Wellbeing Dog spent her first day here at St Emilie’s. Lucy had a great time meeting boys and girls from across the school and is already a huge hit with lots of boys, girls, staff and parents visiting the office to say a special hello. 

Children were taught about how to interact with Lucy on Monday last week, with the principles of calmly approaching, asking permission, patting and saying goodbye being taught. Children were also instructed about how to pat Lucy and also about hygiene practices once they have touched Lucy, to ensure that we protect those people in our community with allergies. 

Lusy is looking forward to joining us again on Monday and will be on drive through duty on Monday morning, as well as circulating at recess and lunch for everyone to say hello.
