Mid Year Reports Celebration Forms – Please Complete by Two Way Interviews With Your Child
At the end of last term, Mid Year Reports were shared with parents and carers. In a slight evolution to our usual practice here at the school, this year, we have asked parents and carers to note the celebrations from their child’s Mid Year Report after having a conversation with their child about what they have done well. These celebrations will be shared with your child’s Class Teacher at two Way Interviews.

I will use this opportunity as a reminder that reports are not addressed to the children. Parents and carers must firstly read the report, understand what is being shared and then relay this information to your child in an age appropriate way.

Year Three and Year Five Religious Education Assessments
Religious Education is considered the first Learning Area here at St. Emilie’s Catholic Primary School. The teaching of Religious Education is timetabled daily with the content from the Learning Area being integrated into other Learning Areas across the school day. 

This term, children in Year Three and Year Five will participate in the Religious Education Assessment. This assessment aims to provide the children an opportunity to showcase their learning from Religious Education as well as provide school staff a snapshot in to areas that the children have a clear grasp on, as well as areas that require some attention individually and as a collective. 

This week, children in Year Three and Year Five will participate in practice tests for the assessments. We wish these children all the very best. 

International Day of Friendship
This Wednesday, 30th July, we are excited to celebrate International Friendship Day with a special URSTRONG Friendology Day!

2025 School Census Day – Friday 1st August
This Friday 1st August is School Census Day. School Census Day is an important day for our school as it is a main source of information that is used for the federal and state governments in resourcing our school. 

As usual, all children, unless unwell must be at school on Friday 1st August. If you know in advance that your child will be away from school on this day, please ensure that a written reason for absence is provided to the school before Friday. If your child is unwell on the morning of Friday 1st August, please ensure that you provide a written absentee note prior to 9:00am. 

We appreciate your assistance in ensuring that this day runs smoothly. 

Welcome to Mr Lowry and Ms Vogels
This term, we are joined by two educators from the University of Notre Dame who are studying teaching. I know in time you will make Mr Michael Lowry and Ms Laura Vogels feel very welcome at St Emilie’s. 

Throughout Term Three, Mr Lowry will be working alongside Mr Davis teaching Health and Physical Education to the children. Ms Vogels can be found in Year Five Gold with Mrs Yock.

Term Three Class Overviews
Please continue to check your email inbox for the Term Overviews being sent home by each class. These overviews contain information about teaching and learning planned for the class, as well as important dates and information and are essential to ensure that parents and carers can continue to partner with school staff in the best interest of the children. 

Strategic Planning Workshops: What are your aspirations for our school in 2030?
This year, staff at the school are in the process of developing a strategic plan which will provide direction for our school toward 2030. During this process, consultation with key stakeholders in the community is vital. Thus far, the children, staff and School Advisory Council have been invited to reflect on the strengths of our school as well as share their hopes and aspirations for our community going forward.  

I now invite members of the parent body to come to school to share their thoughts and hopes about the future direction of the school. All members of the parent body are invited to attend the sessions on the following dates: 

Wednesday 6th of August from 2:00pm to 3:00pm 

Wednesday 13th of August from 9:00am to 10:00am 

An RSVP Form will be shared next week so that parents can show their interest in attending. 

Striving for a Work Life Blend at St Emilie’s and a Right To Disconnect
The staff at St Emilie’s are a very dedicated and committed group of professionals. The staff at our school show the utmost diligence in providing for the children they care for each day. Recently, there have been some changes to the working conditions for teachers and their workloads outside of working hours.  

Below is some information that is important for you to know in relation to these new legislated changes for our teachers as part of their updated employment conditions.  

As has always been the case at St Emilie’s and as indicated in the Parent Handbook, unless a matter is urgent, it is reasonable to expect up to a 48-hour turnaround time in response to emails from school staff. In most cases, staff are unable to respond during the school day because they’re teaching for the majority of the time and have a legal duty of care over the children in their class.   

Staff also have the right to disconnect from 4.00pm each day until 8:15am the following day as per the new changes. Additionally, staff have the right to disconnect on weekends and won’t respond to any emails on Saturday or Sunday. Part-time staff are not required to respond to any form of communication on their non-working days.   

Underpinning this change is the acknowledgement that our staff at St Emilie’s have lives outside of school also. Many staff are parents, family members and friends to their loved ones and it is important that after work hours, they have the right to fulfil these roles without interruption in line with the expectation placed upon other professionals.  

At St Emilie’s, we are blessed to have such a supportive parent body and I know that you will continue to support our staff by keeping these changes in mind when communicating with them. 

St. Norbert College Sibling Discount
We are pleased to share with our families that the sibling discount which is offered at St. Emilie’s Catholic Primary School, now extends to those families who have children at both St Emilie’s and St Norbert College. If you would like to know more about the sibling discount relationship between both schools, please contact our Administration Office. 

Children Who Are Unwell
Given that we are now in the colder months of the year, we are well and truly in the season for bugs and germs to be spread at school. If your child is unwell, the best place for your child is at home. We ask that even if your child wants to come to school, that children stay at home to recover and avoid the spreading of bugs and germs to others in the class. In our experience here at school, even if children are given medication in the morning to combat the symptoms, this generally wears off by morning tea, which leaves children with the symptoms when at school. Thank you for your support in helping keep our community fit and healthy during the Winter months.

Kindy Enrolment 2026 – A Call for Siblings 
There has been a phenomenal response to calls for applications for Kindy enrolments for 2026. We now have more applications than we have positions available.  If you know of anyone who is interested in attending Kindy at St Emilie’s in 2026, please encourage them to submit an application to the School Admin Office as soon as possible. 

We are especially calling families of children already enrolled at the school who have siblings who are Kindy age. Due to the high demand for places in Kindy in 2026, it is vital for you to submit an enrolment form to the school. Please note that just because you have a child enrolled at the school, it does not mean that you automatically receive a guaranteed place for their sibling if you do not submit the application on time. 

School Uniform – Online Ordering
In exciting news for our community, families are now able to order school uniforms online from our school uniform supplier, Perm A Pleat Schoolwear. Online ordering can be found on the school website using the following link.

We also look forward to children returning to school in the correct uniform to commence Term Three. 

As was shared last term, girls are most welcome to wear navy blue 70 denier tights underneath their skorts if they wish, however, as the School Uniform Procedure explains, these should not be worn with socks. In regard to jewellery, chains with a small religious or cultural icon are permitted, however, they must be worn underneath the uniform at all times for health and safety reasons. 

Parish Workshops 
Our Parish continue to offer some very interesting and relevant workshops to those in our community. Flyers for the following workshop have been added to our Community Notice Board next to the Early Years Area as well as added below. 

In the coming weeks, the parish is offering workshops on the following: 

July 26th:  A Workshop at St Emilie’s- Lead From A Place Of Love 

August 12th: Elder Abuse Awareness- Safeguarding Program Workshop 

August 28th,  September 11th, 18th, 25th : Sacrifice Of The Holy Mass- Adult Faith Formation 

Parent Circle
The first session of Parent Circle for the term will take place this Wednesday 30th of July. Parent Circle will commence straight after drop off in the School Hall. Morning Tea will be provided.
