Term Three Week Nine – Commencing Monday 9th September 2024

Dear Families,   

Just when we thought we had a glimpse of the Spring weather early in the week, the weather at the end of the next was not as inviting. 

As I was out on duty on Tuesday morning and the rain came tumbling down, I couldn’t help but begin to notice the beautiful interactions that were happening with the adults in our community.  

As the rain fell and things became that little more uncomfortable, I saw parents and carers sharing umbrellas, an increase in patience and working together in the car park, parents and carers looking out for one another’s children by inviting them under umbrellas, assistance to mothers with little children when loading the children into the car and even the offer of a lift home from one parent to another who had never met! 

At that moment, seeing the adults in our community treating one another with grace and dignity, I caught a glimpse of St Emilie’s at its best. While I have seen our community at its best on numerous occasions, to see people’s true graceful default come out during this wet and windy day, at a time of the morning which is very busy, was a very uplifting moment. 

Thank you for authentically creating this week’s moment of inspiration for me. 

Another moment of pride for us all as a community should be in celebrating our Pre Primary children who today, shared their very first assembly with us all. Didn’t they look so proud of themselves as they showcased the learning they have been involved in throughout the course of the year.

Uniform Supply Survey – Thank You
I would also like to share a massive thank you to the parents and carers who took the time to share their insights into uniform supply here at St Emilie’s. We received a whopping 84 responses from parents and carers in our community and received some feedback for us to consider moving forward with uniform supply. 

I would also like to thank the way that the feedback was offered which was in a very respectful and courteous way while still feeling comfortable enough to be honest. This is greatly appreciated and in line with one of our four school values which is ‘We respect ourselves and one another’. 

For the time being, nothing has changed with our uniform supply here at St Emilie’s. We will have more information to share with the community as the year rolls on before the commencement of 2025.

House Field Carnival
Today the House Field Events took place on the Senior Oval with the children in Year Four, Year Five and Year Six spending a fun filled day outside striving to do their personal best for themselves and their Houses. Thank you to the parents and carers who stayed to encourage the children and to all of the staff for working closely with the children. 

Open Classrooms
Open Classrooms is a popular date on our Term Three calendar and once again promises to be a hit with children and families alike! 

As in previous years, classrooms and special areas such as the Library and Multi-Purpose Room will be available for children and families to visit together for children to showcase their learning. While this is a chance for the children to show their parents and carers their classrooms, it is also a great chance for parents and carers to speak with the children about their learning and reflect on what they have learnt.  Some questions you may ask your child are: 

• What are you learning? 

• What did you do well? 

• What could you do even better? 

These simple questions provide a scaffold for children to think about their own learning and how they can continue to grow with their learning going forward. 

Scholastic Book Fair 
During Week Nine, we invite our families to come along and visit our Book Fair.  The Book Fair will be located in the Learning Hub and will be open at the following times.  Cash and Eftpos will be accepted, however, please be aware that there is a 1% surcharge on Credit Card payments.

Year Four Spelling Bee Success – Well done Claire
A huge congratulations to Claire from Year Four who has gotten through to the next round of the Spelling Bee competition which all children in Year Four entered. What a great achievement Claire. 

House Carnival
Next Friday, all children between Kindy to Year Six will join together for the School House Carnival. This exciting day of track events and team games is sure to be full of laughter, colour and competitive spirit as the children spend the day focussing on fun, friends and fitness. 

At this stage, the weather for next Friday seems to be sunny. Families are encouraged to attend. There will be a sausage sizzle and cake stall on the day where families can purchase food and there will also be a coffee van onsite to ensure that everyone’s energy levels stay at the optimum!

QCE AWARD
We have entered St Emilie’s for a QCE (Quality Catholic Education) Award for our amazing work with URSTRONG.

St Emilie’s vision and mission is to courageously inspire and support children to grow in a safe, nurturing, and Christ-centred environment. URSTRONG was introduced to promote a positive and inclusive environment, teaching students how to build strong friendships, resolve conflict and strengthen their self-awareness and self-worth. The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with students eager to apply their new friendship skills. Partnering with URSTRONG and embedding the Friendology curriculum, they continue to foster kindness, respect, and support in the school community, aligning with their values of building wellbeing and respecting themselves and others.

Performing Arts Assembly
A reminder that on Monday 16th September, our school will be hosting a Performing Arts Assembly. This assembly will be a celebration of our entries into the Catholic Performing Arts Festival and a chance for our children to showcase their God given gifts and talents across The Arts. Please join us in the morning for what is sure to be a great time.

Call for Volunteers

Friday School Lunches
We are very pleased to share that Jamaica Blue in Livingston will now be providing lunches for children to order on Fridays if they wish. It has been a pleasure planning this opportunity with Jamaica Blue who are very excited to be partnering with the school. Children Who Are Unwell 
It is the season for germs to spread! This week across the school we noticed a higher number of absences of children who needed to be away from school as they were unwell. This is a good chance for us to remind parents and carers that if your child is unwell, the best place for them to be is at home to recover. Children who come to school unwell find it difficult to engage fully with the demands of the school day. 

If your child is unwell, has an overly runny nose, a fever or a bad cough, we ask that your child stay at home to rest and to contain the spread of germs to others in the community. It is timely for us all to remind our children about the importance of proper hygiene practices such as handwashing to contain the spread of germs at this time also.

Over the course of the year, we have been sharing staff profiles from our school. This week, we share with you the Staff Profile of Mrs Vanini Jusuf. Mrs Jusuf currently works as an Education Assistant across our school.
