Term Three Week Two – Commencing Monday 22nd July 2024

Dear Families, 

The first week of school for Term Three has now come to an end. Already there has been much to celebrate here at St Emilie’s! 

Thank you for all of your efforts in ensuring that the children return to school with everything they need and are ready to engage in the learning this term. I know you would have heard us share this message before, at St Emilie’s we value your support and partnership in your child’s educational journey. When school and home are working together, this provides our children with the best opportunity to grow to their full potential. 

On Tuesday when setting up for Cross Country with other school staff after lunch, it was a pleasure to see our children going about their daily business. We had some children playing on the oval with Mr Davis, some children were in the Undercover Area practising music with Mr Dabbs and across the school, the various classes were taking full advantage of our outdoor spaces. As the sun was shining, I couldn’t help but feel that our children and our community are extremely blessed especially given the events happening in other parts of the world. This was a moment of gratitude for me and I share this with you all because I encourage you all to find these moments as well as the term goes on. 

Religious Education Assessment
This term, children in Year Three and Year Five will take part in the annual Religious Education Assessment which is facilitated through CEWA. This assessment provides our school with a snapshot of our children’s learning in our first and most important Learning Area which is Religious Education. 

Grandparents Day Assembly
This Friday, 26th July, all in our community, especially our grandparents are invited to attend our Year Three Assembly to honour the grandparents in our community. There will be morning tea served afterwards and we invite you to all stay for a biscuit and a cuppa. 

Cross Country – Congratulations Gannon
On Wednesday, our school was blessed with some beautiful sunny weather for our children to run in the House Cross Country Carnival. This year, children in Year One and Year Two joined in with the remainder of the children from Year Three to Year Six to run in the Cross Country. These children ran so well and gave it their all. 

A huge thank you to all of our parents and carers who came to support on the day. The atmosphere on the morning was really special with the coffee van serving hot beverages and music playing across the school. Thank you to Mr Davis for coordinating the carnival and Mr Munro and Mrs Tonkin for their set up on the day and organising the coffee van for parents and carers.

Congratulations to Gannon who won the House Cross Country by two points. This close result highlights that every person who races and earns a point for their House in Cross Country racing is so valuable. Well done to all involved. 

Interschool Cross Country
This Thursday, various children from Year Four to Year Six who placed in the top four at the House Cross Country will compete at the Interschool Cross Country which will be held at Tomato Lake in Kewdale. We wish all of these children all the very best as they compete on the day. 

Written Confirmation for Absentees
A reminder to parents and carers that if your child is absent from school, a written follow-up including the date your child was absent, your child’s name and your name as a parent or carer is required to be given to the school for legal purposes. Our School Census Day is scheduled for Friday 2nd August and we require all written notification for absentees to be followed up with your child’s Class Teacher as soon as possible. 

Two Way Parent Interviews & Pupil Free Day – Change of Date
An email to families was sent home on Wednesday 17th July which informed families that there has been a change of date for the school Pupil Free Day for Two Way Interviews. This is due to a clash with School Census Day. I apologise for any inconvenience caused. Please note that Two Way Interviews will not take place on Friday 2nd August as originally shared and will now be held on Monday 5th August. This will be the new date for the school Pupil Free Day also. This affects all classes besides Year Six Gold who received additional correspondence about this change during the week.

Friday School Lunches
We are very pleased to share that Jamaica Blue in Livingston will now be providing lunches for children to order on Fridays if they wish. It has been a pleasure planning this opportunity with Jamaica Blue who are very excited to be partnering with the school. Spirit of The Arts
The Spirit of the Arts festival is once again back in 2024. The Spirit of the Arts Festival brings together children from Catholic schools across the state to participate in an uplifting and inclusive celebration of the arts. 

St Emilie’s will once again be represented by our Choir, Christian Dance Troupe, Dance Troupe and Rock Band.

Staff Profiles
Over the course of the year, we have been sharing Staff Profiles of staff from our school. Late last term, Mrs Kristy Bull commenced teaching in Year One Gold in partnership with Mrs Lisa Brooks. Currently, Mrs Bull also holds the role of Learning Support Teacher at St Emilie’s and is one of the school’s Numeracy Leaders. Enjoy finding out more about Mrs Bull by reading her staff profile.

Focus on the St. Emilie’s Catholic Primary School Code of Conduct
At St. Emilie’s Catholic Primary School, we pride ourselves on ensuring that children, staff, families and the wider community are safe when onsite here at school. To allow us to create and maintain a safe environment at all times, St. Emilie’s Catholic Primary School is bound by a code of conduct. The St. Emilie’s Catholic Primary School Code of Conduct outlines a minimum standard of conduct in all behaviour and decision-making to ensure that our children are safe at all times. The code of conduct applies to every single person in our community and those who come onsite at school inherently agree to abide by the code of conduct. Visitors to the school during the day formally agree to follow the code of conduct when they sign in for their visit. 

This week we unpack ‘Standard Twelve – You Allow Students to have a voice in their education, safety and wellbeing’. 

While as staff at St. Emilie’s Catholic Primary School, we have responsibility over the educational growth of the children in our care, we also acknowledge and respect that the children at St Emilie’s also have ideas and opinions about school. In order to celebrate these opinions, the school provides age appropriate forums for children to share their thoughts with school staff and, wherever possible, the voice of the child is factored into school decisions.  

This is the essence of providing a Christ centered and child focussed Catholic education.
