From The Principal
Dear Families,
This week, we officially enter Winter. We also enter the Nyoongar season of Makuru, which is the coldest and wettest time of the year. We are also officially halfway through Term Two, with this term having eleven weeks instead of ten.
This week, there has been a notable increase in children absent from school or being sent home due to feeling unwell. The school term takes a lot out of the children, and this weekend will provide a perfect opportunity for your child (and hopefully yourself), to rest and recharge, ensuring that we finish Term Two positively.
We hope that your child had a lovely day away from school today while the staff gathered on site for some professional learning and other administrative duties.
Wishing you all a lovely long weekend.
Parent Handbook
I am happy to share that the Parent Handbook has been updated to ensure that the information contained is relevant for 2026 and up to date. The handbook contains links to important information at the school and is a great read for parents and carers to ensure that they are across all things St Emilie’s. The link for the Parent Handbook can be found here.
Mid Year Reports Parent Information Session Wednesday the 10th of June
As was shared earlier in the term through the Weekly Reminders, this year, there will be a slight change to how reports are offered at St Emilie’s at the end of Term Two and at the end of Term Four. At the heart of this change will be the fact that children will receive an overall grade for their child in a Learning Area, and will no longer receive a grade for each of the Strands or Modes.
For example, in English, children will receive an overall grade for the English learning Area, but will no longer receive a grade for Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking individually.
To assist parents with understanding the Mid Year Reports, a parent session will be offered on Wednesday, the 10th of June @ 5:00pm, and we strongly urge all parents and carers to come and join us to learn more about reports.
Parent Circle
Parent Circle will once again be on offer for parents in our community who wish to connect on a regular basis. Parents and friends are more than welcome to come to all sessions, or just to come to those that they can make.
The dates for Parent Circle in Term Two are as below:
Thursday 4th of June – Doughnut Decorating
Thursday 2nd of July – Staff Presentation
The Parent Circle catch ups will take place in the Small Hall directly after drop off. It would be great to see some new faces come along for a cuppa and some morning tea.
Keeping Our Community Healthy
A reminder that as we enter the colder and wetter months of the year, we call on the assistance of everyone in our community to ensure that we continue to keep our community healthy. As has been shared previously through the Weekly Reminders, at St Emilie’s, we strive to ensure that we are promoting healthy hygiene practices that prevent the spread of any illnesses that prevent children from attending.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind our community that if your child is unwell, they should stay at home to rest. While I fully appreciate the difficulty of having a sick child stay at home, trying to get through a whole day at school is difficult if you are not well. If children are provided time away from school to get better, often they return with energy and enthusiasm, instead of cold and flu symptoms that linger.
Kindy Enrolment 2027
It is that time of year when we are starting to call for Kindy enrolments for 2027. If you have a child who is due to attend Kindy next year, or you know someone who has a child that age, please encourage them to submit an application as soon as possible. Our Kindy program has proved to be extremely popular over the last few years, and it is advised that parents and carers submit an application sooner rather than later.
Three Year Old Kindy 2027
I am pleased to share that once again in 2027, our school will be offering a Three Year Old Kindy Program for children who turn three in 2027. Further information will be shared with school families about how you can enrol your child in this program.
Are your child’s Emergency Contacts up to date?
It is important that you keep your records up to date for our Administration Office staff. Please ensure that as your circumstances change, you are letting the school know, including up to date contact details. Are your details and the details of your emergency contacts up to date?
P & F Carpark Raffle: Would you like to be the carpark VIP?
For just $1, you could be the car park VIP for the remainder of Term Two. The P & F are offering one lucky family a chance to have a reserved car park bay. By purchasing a ticket (or a few), this could be you! To enter the draw, please click here.
School Disco: Tickets and Volunteers: Are you able to assist?
The St Emilie’s School Disco is back again in 2026 with the theme for this year’s dance off being “Retro Disco: 90’s & 00’s”. Further information for the disco, including a link to purchase tickets, can be found below in the P & F News section.
The P & F Committee are also calling for volunteers to assist on the morning of Friday, the 12th of June and Monday, the 15th of June. If you are able to assist, please indicate your availability here.

URSTRONG
Month of May Theme - Diversity
💚 This month in URSTRONG, we’re diving into diversity. It’s such a great opportunity to pause and really notice (and celebrate!) all the differences that make our students who they are, and how those differences actually strengthen friendships.
URSTRONG describes diversity as “the amazing differences between us that make the world a better and way more interesting place.” It’s a simple idea, but such a powerful one for our kids 💚 .
At our Monday Assembly, the students were asked to do a quick silent challenge – remembering, not to talk, do the action
- Give me a thumbs up if you enjoy being active outside
- Cross your arms if you enjoy quiet time
- Rub your tummy if you like trying new foods
- Put your hands on your head if you speak or hear another language at home
It was super cool to look around and have a visual of our each of us is a little different.
So many different interests, experiences and strengths right here in our school. That’s diversity in action.
In URSTRONG, we talk about being open and accepting in friendships. That means:
- Being curious instead of judging
- Being kind when something feels unfamiliar
- And remembering that different doesn’t mean wrong, it means interesting
Imagine if everyone liked the same things as you. The same games, same jokes, same everything.
It wouldn’t take long before things felt pretty boring!
Great friendships aren’t about being the same. They’re about respecting and celebrating differences.
So this month our message to the students are
- Sit with someone new
- Learn something about a classmate that surprises you
- Ask a kind question about someone’s interests or culture
- Or include someone who might be feeling left out
Every time you do that, you are strengthening your friendship skills.
And remember, when we are open, kind and respectful, we make our school a place where everyone feels like they belong and that’s worth celebrating.

Fruit of the Holy Spirit
Self Control
Stop and Think – How do my words and actions affect me and others?
This week, our school community is reflecting on the Fruit of the Holy Spirit – Self‑Control. Self‑control helps us pause, think, and choose wisely, especially when emotions are strong or situations are challenging.
Self‑control reminds us to stop and think before we speak or act:
- Will my words help or hurt?
- Will my actions bring peace or cause problems?
- Am I showing love and respect to others and myself?
When we practise self‑control, we create classrooms and playgrounds that are safer, kinder, and more welcoming for everyone.
What Does Self‑Control Look Like at St Emilie’s?
Students show self‑control when they:
- Take a deep breath instead of reacting in anger
- Walk away from arguments and seek help when needed
- Think before speaking and choose kind words
- Follow rules even when no one is watching
Adults model self‑control when they:
- Respond calmly to challenging behaviour
- Listen before reacting
- Use respectful language at all times
Practical “Stop and Think” Examples
In the classroom: “I am feeling frustrated. If I stop and think, I can ask for help instead of calling out.” On the playground: “I want to win, but pushing or arguing will hurt others and myself. I can play fairly.” With friends: “My words could hurt someone. I will choose kindness instead.”
What the Bible Tells Us About Self‑Control
Galatians 5:22–23 (KJV) “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.” (Temperance is another word for self‑control.)
Proverbs 16:32 (KJV) “He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”
James 1:19 (KJV) “Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.”
Come, Holy Spirit,
help us to pause and think before we speak or act.
Guide our choices so our words and actions
show love, kindness, and respect to all. Amen.

A Note from the School Health Nurse
Caitlin Amos
Welcome to the new school year. I am the nurse that will be visiting your school throughout the year.
School Health nurses support children’s healthy development and wellbeing in primary schools. We offer a free health check (School Entry Health Assessment) for all children in the year that they start school. You may receive a School Entry Health Assessment form via your child’s teacher. If you sign and return it, we can check your child’s vision, hearing, teeth, growth, and development.
School Health Nurses provide feedback and support to families and schools after assessment and connect you with services in the community. We promote parenting programs and help with health care plans for students with identified and chronic health needs. Additionally, we may provide advice and support for some areas of the curriculum delivery on request by the school.
Further information about the role of the nurse in primary schools can be found here:
