From the Principal

Dear Families,

Welcome to the first edition of the Weekly Reminders for Term Four. On behalf of the staff here at St Emilie’s, I would like to welcome all children and families back to school.

Traditionally, Term Four is a very busy term which seems to go by very quickly in the lead up to the start of Advent, the conclusion of school for the year and Christmas. Between Day One of the term and the final day, there are many learning opportunities still to take place and lots of engaging and memorable experiences for the children.

I would like to remind members of the community that the children in our parish will celebrate Confirmation on Sunday, the 26th of October. This Mass will take place at 11:00am, and the Confirmands, families, school staff and parishioners would love to have you join for this special occasion.

Once again, in Term Four, the children at St Emilie’s will have the opportunity to participate in a whole range of events and competitions to ensure that our children are able to develop their God given gifts. Amongst the fun, all children will be involved in Edu-Dance lessons in Term Four, as well as various other children taking the chance to join interschool Chess, Numero, Athletics and Year Six Basketball. Thank you to the teachers across the school going the extra mile to ensure that the children can have access to these opportunities.

With the warm weather starting to creep in, this is certainly a great time of year for everyone. We look forward to a terrific Term Four.

P & F Sponsors
Over the course of the year, our School P & F has been so very well supported by some very generous local businesses, most recently in Term Three, and over the course of Term Four. I would like to especially thank the following businesses for supporting our school.

A HUGE thank you to:

Briscola Homes

Lil Sprinkles Bakery

Lighten Up Candles Coogee

Canning Vale Groceries

The wonderful events that are supported by our School P & F could not go ahead without the support of these very generous businesses. On behalf of everyone at St Emilie’s, I would like to say a huge THANK YOU!

Class Term Overviews
A Class Overview for each year will be sent home this week. This overview provides parents and carers with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the teaching and learning program for your child’s class, as well as any other information that is required to ensure that Term Four runs smoothly in your child’s class.

2026 Class Requests
The period for parents and carers to lodge official class requests for 2026 has now opened. If you have any class requests for your child for 2025, these need to be sent in writing to the School Administration Account at stemiliesadmin@cewa.edu.au

At the end of 2024, there was a huge increase in the number of class requests sent to the school for the 2025 class placements. For 2026, I ask that parents and carers do not email through requests for friends that you would like your child to be placed with in 2026. As part of our usual process, children are asked by their class teachers to name five friends that they would like to be with for the following year. These names are then entered into our system, and each child in the school is guaranteed to have at least one of these children in their class.

Requests for friends that are sent to the Administration Email will not be considered.

While we will certainly take other requests into account when we are organising classes for 2026, requests are not guaranteed. The period for official class requests to be sent to school will close on Monday, 27th October.

Notify School If Leaving
As we draw closer to the end of the year, planning has commenced at the school for the commencement of the 2026 school year. If your child is not returning to St Emilie’s for the 2026 school year, can you please email the School Administration Office at stemiliesadmin@cewa.edu.au to notify the school.

Fee Balances
As we enter Term Four, it is timely for families who have remaining fee balances to work toward closing these balances for the year. The school fees that parents and carers pay at St Emilie’s are a vital source of funding for our school and ensure that we can resource the school in the best way for the children in our care.

We recognise from time to time that families may have difficulty in paying school fees. If this is the case, I would ask that you contact the Administration Office to arrange a confidential conversation with myself.

Wellness Dog Trial
Thank you to those parents and carers who shared their thoughts with us around the potential for the trial of a Wellness Dog in Term Four. The support for the trial of the Wellness Dog was overwhelmingly positive, and as such, plans are in place to commence this trial in Week Two of the term.

Over the course of next week, I aim to speak with families with some additional questions. Further information will be shared with the community in the coming week.

If you have not yet shared your voice, please feel free to do so using the form here.

High Standard of School Uniform
As we enter Term Four, I would like to remind parents and carers of the School Uniform Procedures for the school, which can be found on the school website page here.

A reminder to all families that as part of the School Uniform Procedures, there are clear guidelines for the wearing of accessories, as well as for haircuts, which all parents and carers agree to upon enrolment of their child here at St Emilie’s. Locally, our school enjoys a strong reputation, and this is partly down to the standards that are expected for children around such things as uniforms. I encourage parents and carers to ensure that ‘holiday haircuts’ do not return with your child back to school this term, and that you continue to support the school in upholding standards around uniform.

Children Must Have a School Hat
As the warmer weather starts to creep in, please ensure that your child brings a school hat to school. Children in Kindy and Pre-Primary may wear any hat they wish from home.

Term Four Planner Online
To stay up to date with all of the great things happening this term at St Emilie’s, please find the School Term Calendar here.

Charism Art Exhibition
As part of the Charism Art Exhibition, children from Catholic schools have been invited to share art pieces for display. Each school has been invited to share two pieces of art for the Charism Art Exhibition, and we are pleased to share that we will be entering two portraits from St Emilie’s. One of the portraits will be from Year One, which has been designed using watercolour, and the second is a digitally created portrait of St Emilie.

To see these works of art as well as many more from across the system of schools, please visit their website, here.

URSTRONG

October Theme: Honesty 👌

Welcome back to Term Four, Ninjas!

This month, our URSTRONG theme is honesty – a key value in helping children build strong, trusting friendships.

In Friendology, students learn that honesty is like a superpower. It’s what keeps friendships real and reliable. Being honest means speaking the truth, even when it’s difficult, and taking responsibility for our actions. It’s about being authentic, not pretending or hiding things just to look good or avoid trouble.

We discuss how trust and honesty go hand-in-hand. Trust is the glue that holds friendships together, but honesty is what keeps that bond strong. When children are open and truthful, their friends know they can rely on them—and that builds confidence and respect in their relationships.

Of course, honesty isn’t always easy. Sometimes telling the truth can feel uncomfortable, but it’s also a sign of courage and integrity. We remind students that being honest doesn’t mean being unkind. It’s possible to tell the truth thoughtfully and with empathy. For example, instead of blurting out something that might hurt someone’s feelings, they can learn to express honesty with kindness and care.

Encouraging honesty at home helps reinforce what students are learning at school. You might like to have a family conversation about what honesty looks like at home, sharing times when telling the truth has helped strengthen trust or repair a situation.

As we move through the month, we’ll continue to focus on honesty as a key quality to make every Friendship Ninja strong and confident.

Fruit of the Holy Spirit

Faithfulness

This week, we reflect on faithfulness, one of the beautiful fruits of the Holy Spirit. Faithfulness means being trustworthy, reliable, and committed to doing what is right—even when it’s difficult or when no one is watching. It’s about keeping our promises, standing by our values, and showing loyalty to God and to others.

In our busy lives, it can be tempting to take shortcuts or to do what’s easy instead of what’s right. But as followers of Christ, we are called to be people of integrity, guided by the Holy Spirit to make choices that honour God and serve others.

The Bible reminds us:

  • “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”
    Hebrews 10:23
  • “Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.”
    1 Corinthians 4:2
  • “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
    Galatians 5:22-23

Let’s encourage one another to be faithful in our words and actions, big and small. When we commit to doing what is right, we become living examples of God’s love and inspire others to do the same. How can we show faithfulness this week?

  • By keeping our promises, even when it’s hard.
  • By standing up for what is right, even if we stand alone.
  • By being loyal friends and supportive family members.
  • By trusting God and following His guidance, especially in challenging times.

May the Holy Spirit help us to grow in faithfulness, so that we can be trusted to do what is right and bring hope to those around us.

Parent Reading

This week under the Parent Reading heading, we have included an article titled, ‘Busting the Biggest Myths About Kids and Sleep’ by Dr Justin Coulson.

If your child consistently struggles to fall or stay asleep, snores loudly or stops breathing during sleep, or seems exhausted despite a full night’s sleep, it may be time to speak with your GP or a sleep specialist. Sleep disorders are real and treatable. The more rested your child is, the more likely they are to be calm, focused, resilient, and happy. And the more sleep you get, the more present, patient, and positive you can be too.
