From the Principal
Dear Families,
Today is a special day, given that it is the Feast of the Assumption.
Today we celebrate the life of Mary, the Mother of Jesus and the day of her Assumption into heaven. God loved Mary so much that he took her to live with him in heaven forever, body and spirit. Mary was a woman who always said ‘yes’ to God. She was truly a servant of God who now enjoys the glory of everlasting life.
This morning before school, staff gathered together for prayer to celebrate this Holy day, which is very important for us as a Catholic community.
Today, we remember Mary, the Mother of Jesus, but also think of and pray for our own mothers and mother figures and the love and care that they show us.
For this, we are grateful.
Next weekend is a very important weekend in our Church as we celebrate First Holy Communion Masses for the children in our parish. Children from the parish, including children from St Emilie’s, will join for one of three Masses over the course of next week to receive Eucharist for the first time. I would like to extend an invitation to all in our community to come and join in with one of the Masses next week and celebrate this very special occasion.
Please continue to keep these children, their families, staff and catechists in your thoughts and prayers over the course of next week and into next weekend.
Tonight, our children will be rocking the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre as our Dance Troupe and boys’ Hip Hop Crew share their performances on the big stage! What a proud night to be part of this amazing school as we have such a large number of children sharing their God given gifts. A massive thank you to Ms Dreyer, Ms Fallo and Mrs Green for preparing the children.
Performing Arts – Outstanding Award Recipients
In really positive news for our school, our first two items for the Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival, the Christian Dance Group and School Band, both received ‘Outstanding Awards’ for their items. This is the highest achievement possible in the individual sections and means that both of these items will be considered to perform at the final performance night of the festival, toward the end ofthe term.
Year One Assembly
Next Friday, our Year One children will be sharing their assembly to the community. Come on down and see our Year One children in action next week and stay for a cuppa and a chat with other parents and carers afterwards. All in our community are welcome.
School Choir
This Tuesday, we wish our School Choir all the very best as they travel to Applecross to share their beautiful voices. Thank you to the children and to Mr Dabbs for the hours of practice which has gone into preparing your item.
Father’s Day Breakfast – Friday 5th of September
This term, it is time for our community to spoil our fathers and father figures in the community, as we once again prepare for Father’s Day Breakfast. In the past, this day has been named ‘Family Breakfast’, however, given the special emphasis on mothers and mothers figures earlier in the year, it is only fair to shine the spotlight on our fathers and father figures for their special day.
Essentially, nothing has changed in the way the breakfast will look. Families have an opportunity to pre-purchase a breakfast for the morning on Friday, the 5th of September and all are welcome to join. Fathers and father figures come in all shapes and sizes, and so, they are all most welcome to join for this wonderful event in a few weeks.

House Athletics Carnival Novelty Items – Friday 19th of September
This year, we will once again be selling novelty items for the House Athletics Carnival on Friday, 19th of September. These items bring colour and vibrancy to an already action packed day, and purchases made through the school earn money that is shared back into purchasing resources for the children. So, the more you purchase, the more money we have for resources for our children.
Information on how to make a purchase will be shared in the coming weeks before the carnival.
Book Week Parade – Tuesday 2nd of September
Literacy Week is fast approaching, where, as a community, we celebrate literacy, and in particular, the magic of books!
In 2024, our school hosted a Book Week Parade, and through popular demand, the parade will return in 2025. Further information will be shared about the parade inthe coming weeks; however, please lock in the date of the morning of Tuesday, 2nd of September, when the parade will take place.
All children from Kindy to Year Six are invited to dress up on the day.
P & F Volunteers Form and a Call for Donations of Prizes
Between now and the end of the year, there are some very exciting events which will take place at St Emilie’s. These events, supported by the P & F depend on the involvement of parents and carers to ensure that the events are safe, fun and engaging for all involved. So, why not come along and join the fun by volunteering your time. It is a great way to contribute to the life of our school.

We also use this opportunity to put a call out to the community for any donations or assistance from our community (especially family businesses), who may be able to assist with donating prizes for the various events. Please contact the school Administration Office if you can assist.
Congratulations Ms Harris – Australian Schools eSports Awards
A huge shout out to the wonderful Ms Harris, who has been nominated for a prize at the Australian Schools eSports Awards. Ms Harris, who is our school’s Digital Technology Teacher, works tirelessly at St Emilie’s and at another school to ensure that children can access learning experiences with technology. Ms Harris will travel to the Gold Coast later in the year to be part of the occasion.

School Uniform – Online Ordering
In exciting news for our community, families are now able to order school uniforms online from our school uniform supplier, Perm A Pleat Schoolwear. Online ordering can be found on the school website using the following link.
We also look forward to children returning to school in the correct uniform to commence Term Three.
As was shared last term, girls are most welcome to wear navy blue 70 denier tights underneath their skorts if they wish; however, as the School Uniform Procedure explains, these should not be worn with socks. In regard to jewellery, chains with a small religious or cultural icon are permitted; however, they must be worn underneath the uniform at all times for health and safety reasons.

Parish Workshops

Parent Circle
The next session of Parent Circle for the term will take place on Thursday, the 28th of August. All parents and carers are most welcome to join in on the morning.
Hindi Language Class
Mrs Srivastava, who works in Year One here at St Emilie’s, has shared this opportunity for those interested in learning Hindi on the weekends. Classes are held at Riva Primary School, Piara Waters, on Saturday between 9:00am and 11:00am and our very own Mrs S, facilitates the learning at this time.

August Theme: RESPECT 💚
Hi Ninjas,
This month in URSTRONG, we’re focusing on one of the most important ingredients in any friendship – respect.
Respect is something we show through our words and actions. It’s about treating people with kindness, listening to their ideas, and valuing who they are – even when they’re different from us. Respect is what helps our friendships grow strong and stay strong.
In URSTRONG, we’ve learned that no friendship is perfect – sometimes we have little conflicts known as Friendship Fires. But when we have respect, we can get through those tricky times in a way that brings us closer, not further apart.
In fact, Friendship Fact #3 teaches us that trust and respect are the two most important qualities in a friendship. Without them, friendships don’t feel safe or strong.
So, how can we show respect every day? Here are some Friendship Ninja tips:
- Listen with your whole body – Show someone you care by giving them your full attention.
- Speak kindly – Our words have power, and respectful words make others feel good.
- Own your actions – If you’ve hurt someone, saying sorry shows maturity and respect.
- Celebrate differences – Everyone is unique. Respect means appreciating what makes others special.
- Include others – Make sure no one feels left out. A small invitation can make a big difference.
You can think of respect like a seed. If we plant it and care for it with kindness and fairness, it grows into strong, healthy friendships – just like a beautiful friendship tree!
So, Friendship Ninjas, let’s all commit to choosing respect every day. It’s one of the best ways to build a school where everyone feels safe, included, and valued.
Don’t forget – respect starts with each and every one of us!

Fruit of the Holy Spirit
Love
As we continue to nurture the spiritual and emotional growth of our students, staff, and families, we turn our continue to focus on the Fruit of the Holy Spirit: Love.
Love is more than a feeling—it is a deliberate act of kindness, a commitment to care, and a reflection of God’s presence in our lives. It is through love that we build a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and respected.
In Galatians 5:22-23, Paul writes:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
Love leads the list because it is the root from which all other fruits grow. Without love, our actions lose their meaning and our words lose their power.
The Fruit of the Holy Spirit—specifically love—is a powerful guide for how we treat others. In Christian teaching, love is more than just a feeling; it’s a choice to act with kindness, compassion, and respect toward others, reflecting God’s love.

Attendance Procedures
When your child/ren are absent from school please either email the teacher firstname.surname@cewa.edu.au and stemiliesadmin@cewa.edu.au
or
Use the Absentee Form on our Website.
It is a legal requirement for parents to contact the School regarding any student absences. Parents should email the teacher and include admin by 9.00am on the day of the absence with the following information:
- Full name of student
- Year group
- Reason for absence and expected length of absence
- Your name and relationship to the student
- Parents are required to inform the school if the absence is expected to be extended.
Absentee Long Term
It is a requirement for parents to complete the Leave of Absence – Notification Form when taking planned extended holidays during the term.
Parents are required to return the below form to Administration prior to the absence.
Leaving Early
1. While we understand it is difficult to make specialist appointments outside of school hours, we strongly encourage you to do so where possible.
2. Please ensure you are emailing the class teacher along with admin, if your child is going to be taken out of school early for an appointment.
Keyed Up Music
St Emilie’s partners with Key Up Music to offer after school Music lessons.
Keyed Up Music will be teaching guitar, keyboard, voice, violin, and drum lessons after school. Please head to the Keyed Up Music Tab on our Website for more information.
