In week 1 of Term 2, our Year 6 Just Dance team competed in their first Perth regional event.
Lucia, Nadia, Rafael and Charlie represented St Emilie’s against 7 other teams from Methodist Ladies’ College, Corpus Christi and North Harrisdale. The schools were broken into two heats and St Emilie’s lined up against North Harrisdale’s Team 1 and MLC’s Primary Team 1 and High School Team 1.
Over the day, the students danced to 10 songs and their scores from each song were combined to form the school’s grand total. The students all danced superbly, with Lucia leading the squad with consistent ‘Superstar’ and ‘Megastar’ scores in almost every song.
The students also took part in some cyber safe discussions with the organisers. Addressing topics such as micro transactions and gaming addiction, our team offered their thoughts on the free-to-play games that are available, and the ways that these games entice players to spend their money and time. The students were also told about Kids Helpline which is a fantastic resource for them to access if they are feeling unsafe or unsure online.
When the steam from the red-hot dancing shoes finally settled, St Emilie’s had placed 2nd in their heat, just behind MLC’s High School team 1, and this highlighted how hard the students had all worked throughout their dances. Unfortunately, this also meant they had not made it to the finals, but we held our heads high, very proud of this achievement in our first year of competing!
Congratulations to our Just Dance team! You represented our school beautifully!
