On Monday the 29th November the year Three classes attended The Fremantle Literacy Centre in Fremantle.
The Literature Centre is a unique place to nurture young people’s interest in reading and writing, using engaging techniques to explore and interpret literature. Uniquely located within the walls of the Old Fremantle Prison, it is the only centre of its kind in Australia.
During our visit the students had some wonderful learning opportunities such as hearing about the amazing story of Moondyne Joe, Western Australia’s real life outlaw hero. The students looked at the amazing artwork of Mark Greenwood, the author and illustrator of ‘The Legend of Moondyne Joe’. Next the students learned about the storybook titled, ‘Queen Celine’, a funny, eco-friendly, politically-relevant picture book by super-talent Matt Shanks.
After an engaging and fascinating time learning about so many interesting aspects of these amazing stories and the talents of these Australian authors the students travelled to Bibra Lake for some lunch and fun on the adventure playground. Thanks to the Pham Familiy’s Bibra Lake Lunch bar menu, we were spoilt with some delicious food. The students were lucky enough to have the whole playground to themselves.
Overall this was a wonderful and exciting learning experience that was made even more perfect by the wonderful cooperation and attention of our Year Three’s as well as the perfect sunny weather.
We had a ball and learnt a lot! 🙂
