This week was National Homelessness Week (1-7 August) . This is an annual campaign coordinated by Homelessness Australia and seeks to raise awareness around people experiencing homelessness – the issues they face, and the action needed to achieve long-lasting solutions, including increasing the supply of housing and services.
In year Three we looked at this growing problem and some of the ways that we can help people in need. Next we worked in pairs to design a shelter that could accomodate someone who needs a home. We chose from three different places, a jungle, a desert and the mountains. The students drafted a short plan and then began their final pictures including labels to show what they created. The students came up with some very creative ideas such as creating a home underground to protect people from the elements and a fish pond so that they would have food. We are still completing these wonderful pieces of work but we look forward to some completed samples of work to place on display.
