  • What is the evening about?

Children today live in a world that is more negative and judgmental than ever before, a world where their weaknesses are exaggerated, their strengths over examined and their failures are posted on Facebook.

Parents today need a regular dose of positivity to prevent their children falling into the thought pattern that goes something like “If you knew me as I really am you wouldn’t like me so I’ll pretend to be someone else!”

This entertaining, humorous and challenging presentation explores raising children through the concepts of resilience, success and progress.

Please read this flyer for more information about this great opportunity for parents:

  • Your attendance is a public way of acknowledging that you appreciate and need the support of the parish and school community, in helping you to raise your child in their Catholic faith.
  • ‘Commitment’ means ‘being dedicated to a cause’ – in this case, dedicated to enriching one’s faith through learning, listening, modelling, questioning, participating. Your children need to see and ‘feel’ your commitment to the sacramental program, so please make sure that you present a positive attitude to attending this Mass, as well as the Parent-Child workshops throughout the year.

Mazenod High School Drama Production

  • November 5, 2014
  • Dan Naden
  • · News · Year 6 · Year 6 Blue · Year 6 Gold

On Tuesday 4th of November, our Year Six students were lucky enough to be the audience for students from Mazenod high school’s travelling drama production! Mazenod students have been visiting St Emilie’s for the last few years, and they have always presented an entertaining and informative experience!

photo 8

The year 8 students from Mazenod performed a series of short skits featuring issues that our students may face next year in high school. They included things like travelling to school, making friends, peer pressure and much more.

photo 7

Our students even got a chance to step onto the stage and play the lead role in some other improvised situations.

photo 4

Aedan P stole the show when he became a “teacher” and stepped in to stop a bullying situation.

Kobe was a star when he made the choice to “do his homework” rather than play a game of soccer.

It was an entertaining afternoon and the performances certainly helped answer some of the questions our students had about high school.

Bravo Mazenod and many thanks!

St Emilie’s is celebrating our 2014 whole school numeracy focus with a Fact-A-Thon in Week Four of this term.

Sponsor sheets were sent home before the school hols however if you need one it is attached here:

Factathon Sponsor sheet

All children have been given a practise number fact sheet.each week as part of their homework.

Each child’s particular facts will align with their class program and the work being covered in our multi-age Maths Groups. Typically, they will include appropriate addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.

Please return your child’s sponsor sheet and monies to their class teacher by Monday 10th November or ASAP, thank you!

Part of the money raised will directly benefit one of the students in our school, who urgently needs expensive equipment to meet their physical needs. Other funds will be directed towards class and school projects.

Thank you for your support and we look forward to students learning lots of great numeracy facts in the coming weeks!

Weeks 1 and 2 Term 4 Indonesia!

For our final Term this year, we are studying Indonesia!

Its very exciting for many of our students as anyone who has been to Bali has visited Indonesia and many of our families here at St Emilie’s have found Bali to be a great place for a family break.

Indonesia is one of our closest Asian neighbours and important as one of Australia’s trade partners. In turn we are just as influential to Indonesia’s tourism industry.

Here are some highlights of our fortnights learning:

learning greetings and speaking indonesian to one another. We practised the words"Halo"- which means Hello, and "Sampai Jumpa" which means See you later.

2014-10-14 11.14.00

It was a great discovery to the year 1 and 2 classes that Indonesia is made up of many different islands and we found out where Bali is in Indonesia, and that the capital city is Jakarta.

Here we are learning the numbers 1-10 is Indonesian. Our clever year 4-6 classes could read out their phone numbers to partners by the end of the lesson!

Year 6 Sacrament of Confirmation

  • October 22, 2014
  • Dan Naden
  • · News · Year 6

Last weekend marked a very special time in our Year Six student’s lives as they received the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Masses were held on Saturday night, Sunday morning and Sunday evening and involved both students from our school and the St Emilie’s parish.

Candidates were supported at the Mass by their families and their sponsors, who are special people students have chosen to assist them spiritually in the years ahead – these sponsors are also a sign of the ongoing support of the entire Catholic community.

conf photo confphotoThe Mass began with the students entering the church with their sponsor. Later, Father Chien confirmed each candidate by anointing their head with the oil of Chrism and making the sign of the cross, saying “Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit”.

Students have really been preparing for their Confirmation over all their years of primary school, as each year they have  been learning more and more about this Sacrament during Religious education lessons.

Each student chose a saint they admired, after studying the choices they made and the life they lived. Students completed a project to find out more about their saint and reflected upon ways they could go out and make a difference, just like their saint had.

We discussed the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit and gave examples of how each gift could help strengthen us in our daily lives. Students learned that our soul gives both life to our body and inner strength for goodness.  We looked at ways in which Jesus revealed heroic, spiritual strength to obey his Father. We also explored ways in which other Christian heroes have been strengthened by the Holy Spirit, and how Catholics are promised this strength through the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Thank you to everyone who attended  provided their support over the weekend, and a big congratulations to all Confirmation candidates.

God Bless You All.

Connect to Reading: Read to Connect

The Book Week Theme for 2014 is all about CONNECTING to reading …

Below are some ideas to help your children get into the spirit of reading at home!

Perhaps once the challenges are completed you might be able to buy a new book for your child’s bedroom reading shelf – or visit the library to borrow a couple of new books!

Challenge One: Connect with your Family

Read a book to a family member, parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt or uncle or perhaps even your pet!

Challenge Two: Connect to Reading and CREATE

Cooking or crafting is a great way to engage with some purposeful reading. Choose a recipe book from home or the library and cook a recipe from this book or choose a craft book, read and follow the instructions and CREATE!

Challenge Three: Connect from Afar

Read a book to someone you know living interstate or overseas. You might like to use Skype or a phone or you may like to record yourself reading a book and email it to someone ( with parent permission).

Challenge Four: Connect with an Author or Illustrator

Look up one of your favourite authors or illustrators online. Leave a message on their webpage, blog, Facebook page (with parental guidance) or Instagram account (with parental guidance) telling them why you love their work.

Challenge Five: Connect with a Text

Read a text you don’t normally read – perhaps a graphic novel, a newspaper, a magazine, comic strip, instruction manual for your microwave…anything at all! Record here the type of text you connected with.

Challenge Six: Connect with History

Read a historical fiction book or a non-fiction book about a particular time in history which you are interested in.

Challenge Seven: Connect with Technology

Read a text (for example a newspaper, magazine, blog entry or book) using a Kindle, iPad, computer or other device. Many libraries allow you to borrow e-books.

Challenge Eight: Connect with Friends

Lend a book you love to a friend and tell them why you enjoyed this book.

Challenge Nine: Connect with Others

Donate a book (a second hand one you no longer want, or a new one) to a charity or school or library.
