Habit of Mind – Taking Responsible Risks
Taking responsible risks is an essential life skill.
Our habit of mind focus in Year Four Gold for the last few weeks has been Responsible Risk Taking.
We have been talking about the topic of comfort zones and being able to complete activities within and outside of our comfort zone.
We have also explored how taking responsible risks and participating in activities that are outside our comfort zone can help build our resilience and fortitude.
Some examples of activities outside our comfort zone from Year Four Gold include: Eating green beans, facing the opposing team’s basketball players, closing my eyes when on the swing, taking part in Mathematics tests, completing extremely complicated parkour, exercising for long periods of time and patting cats.
The students were given some time on the school playground to find which parts were in and out of their comfort zone. Some students experienced no sections that were out of their comfort zone, while, some brave and honest students, felt a few sections were out of their comfort zone and made them nervous.
Well done Year Four!
